What is Piriton?

Piriton Allergy Tablets are a form of treatment that helps to relieve the effects of hay fever and other types of allergy. The tablets work by reducing the symptoms associated with an allergy, such as a runny nose, watery eyes, and itchy skin. The tablets can also be used to treat skin allergies. The active ingredient in Piriton tablets is chlorphenamine maleate, which is an antihistamine.

How does an antihistamine work?

An antihistamine works by suppressing histamine, a natural substance that is released when coming into contact with a substance that causes an allergy. An allergy occurs when the body comes into contact with something it thinks is a threat when it is not. As a result, the immune system forms a defence which includes releasing histamine. Histamine is the cause of many symptoms associated with an allergy.

Who can use these Piriton Tablets?

These Piriton Tablets are suitable to be used by adults and children 6 and over. Anyone who is elderly should go to their doctor or Pill Doctor pharmacist before using, as there is a higher risk of side effects. The tablets should not be used if you are allergic to chlorphenamine or any other ingredient contained in the tablets, are currently using any other type of antihistamines, or have taken MAOIs (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors) for treating depression.
