What are Strepsils extra triple action lozenges used for?

This is used to relieve sore throat, for example, associated with a mouth or throat infection.

How do Strepsils extra triple action lozenges work?

Strepsils extra lozenges contain the active ingredient hexylresorcinol, which is an antiseptic that also has local anaesthetic effects. Its antiseptic action kills the bacteria that may be associated with mouth and throat infections, while its anaesthetic action helps numb the pain.

Sucking the lozenge allows the active ingredient to work directly on the sore areas of the mouth and throat. The other ingredients of the lozenges also help lubricate and soothe the painful area.

Strepsils extra lozenges come in cherry and blackcurrant flavours.

How do I take Strepsils extra triple action lozenges?

  • Adults and children over six years old should allow one lozenge to dissolve slowly in the mouth every three hours as needed.
  • Do not take more than 12 lozenges in 24 hours.
  • If your symptoms last for more than three days you should get medical advice from your doctor or a PillDoctor pharmacist.

Who should not take Strepsils extra triple action lozenges?

  • Children under six years of age.
  • People with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose mal-absorption or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency, which cause intolerance to certain sugars. (The lozenges contain glucose and sucrose).

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
