Strepsils extra lozenges contain an active ingredient known as hexylresorcinol, which is an antiseptic that also has local anaesthetic effects. Its antiseptic action kills the bacteria that may be associated with mouth and throat infections, while its anaesthetic action helps numb the pain.

Sucking the lozenge allows the active ingredient to work directly on the sore areas of the mouth and throat. The other ingredients of the lozenges also help lubricate and soothe the painful area.

How do I take Strepsils extra triple action lozenges?

  • Adults and children over six years old should allow one lozenge to dissolve slowly in the mouth every three hours as needed.
  • Do not take more than 12 lozenges in 24 hours.
  • If your symptoms last for longer than three days you should get medical advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

Who should not take Strepsils extra triple action lozenges?

  • Children under six years of age.
  • People with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency, which cause intolerance to certain sugars. (The lozenges contain glucose and sucrose).
